Riley's Birthday!

Ok...so for Riley's 2nd Birthday on Saturday we just had a few close friends and family over for cake and ice cream. John, Dana, and their two girls Hailee and Cameron were here as well as our friends Megan and Matt and their two kids, Blake and Mailey. Riley got pretty spoiled for a two year old. We did all our shopping at the Disney store. She got a stuffed Nemo, a stuffed Mickey, and figurines from The Little Mermaid and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. And a couple books. Hailee brought her a new CareBears DVD (which she loves!) And Blake and Mailey brought a book, coloring book, crayons, and candy. (More things she LOVES) so great job on the gifts, everyone. Grandma and Grandpa Anderson got her an outfit and a play vacuum that sings and makes fun noises. Grandpa Odasso (and Rachel, Taryn, and April) sent both girls shirts from the Disney Store, got them both savings bonds, and sent Riley a little bit of money to get herself something. And Grandma Debbie sent Riley flowers (which she loves)with balloons and a stuffed PINK elephant. And an Old Navy gift card! This is my favorite place to shop for the girls clothes! Thank you to EVERYONE who made Riley's day! She liked opening the presents. The books we bought her were one of the first gifts to get opened and she immediately brought one to me and said, "Read it." And she still had lots of gifts to open so it was funny. She understood opening the presents at least...she just was a little slow about it. Christmas should be a blast though!

There's the paci we just got rid of!!! YAY!

The birthday girl I have no idea how.why this picture got turned around...but there's the cake. Nothing fancy like her last year's Elmo cake...but it was yummy. Anytime I have to make a cake I to the funfetti kind with sprinkles in the cake and icing. YUM! Hailee, Blake, and Izzy watching Riley open gifts Donald Duck! Sugar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the video of everyone singing Happy Birthday...Riley was kind of embarrassed I guess. But when I watch it she will sing along with it. We tried to get her used to the idea of having the song sung to her by singing it to her all that day but I guess the crowd made it too much for her!

R is for...

RILEY, of course!

Riley Paige turned TWO this past Saturday, August 23rd. It's kind of crazy to think I have a two year old but at the same time I can hardly remember life before her. Kids change things! Riley has been such a joy to our life. She was the ideal baby. She was sleeping 7-8 hours a night at just 6 weeks old. She hardly ever put things in her mouth that shouldn't go there (opposite of Isabelle), she was mostly pleasant and happy. Her terrible twos came a little early...she learned to throw a tantrum around a year old, and has been pushing our buttons since because she is so stinking smart! She is still in the terrible twos but the good outweighs the bad. She recognizes most of the alphabet letters, will sing the ABC song along with anyone singing it (she doesn't quite have it down all by herself...but she's close!), can count to ten (although occasionally misses 5 which I find ironic because she can count down 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 PERFECTLY), she has quite a large vocabulary and repeats EVERYTHING (and I mean everything) we say.

Some of the latest: when asked what's in her diaper she can say, "It's poop in there." I love to hear her say that. She gave up her paci for good yesterday. So far...it hasn't been as painful as I thought. Still, she asks for it. She will sing "Shake, shake, shake,...Shake, shake, shake...Shake your booty....Shake your booty" and dance. She is OBSESSED with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the Disney channel, loves all things Elmo, Mickey, princess, Nemo, and more..., she especially loves animals. She loves bath time but hates getting her hair washed (rinsed, really). She is a kind big sister (usually) and can make Izzy laugh when she wants to. She also really likes to hear her own voice because she jabbers all the time (and not quietly); when I ask her how old she is she can hold up her fingers and say TWO. I love when she says "thank you," "careful," "bless you," "letters," (when she wants to work on her alphabet) "help me," "Izzy's crying" "what's that?," "yes," "you did it!," and so much more. Everyone always comments on her sweet little voice. I love all her hair but she hates to sit still and let me attempt at pulling it up/making it cute/keeping it out of her face. She has also recently become interested in trying to put her own clothes on (this still requires much help!).

Also, Riley peed in the potty today. Not so much of her own free will and choice but still...we are hoping to get well on our way to potty training soon. She woke up from her nap and I immediately set her down on her potty chair and she was quite grumpy because she was still waking up but she peed. I gave her chocolate... Maybe that will encourage her to go in the toilet...we shall see!

It amazes me everyday how much she is absorbing and learning. Oh to have the sharp mind of a little kid! They don't forget anything. She has a scratch on her leg and pointed at it the other day and said, "boo boo" and I said, "Yes that kind of owie is called a scratch." She repeated it and showed it to me all day calling it a scratch. I know it's normal for vocabulary to be expanding so quickly but I am just AMAZED!!! It's so fun to hear the things she comes up with. She loves books and coloring. Coloring utensils have to be kept well out of reach and are used only under supervision. Except on those rare occasions when she gets her hands on them somehow. She loves sweet stuff like her mom and asks for cookies, chocolate, and candy frequently. I am so embarrassed! If it's not one of those, it's fruit snacks. She loves cereal, milk, juice, water, spaghetti, chicken nuggets, french fries, cheese, and meat; feeding herself is something else she enjoys and while it's still messy her hand eye coordination is developing/getting better everyday.

I suppose I could share the paci story since I am writing a book already...

I have a friend who took her two year old to the dentist and the dentist said get rid of the bottle (which we did with Riley at 13 months) and get rid of the pacifier. So my friend cut the tips off of her sons pacifiers. So yesterday I thought I would give it a try. Riley came into our room when she woke up just before 8 am. When we headed to the kitchen for breakfast she left her paci in our room along with her blanket. She didn't ask for paci or blankie all day and around two in the afternoon I went in and she was laying on her bed. I took blankie to her and left. A few minutes later she came out asking for "paci". I did some quick thinking, grabbed a pair of scissors, ran into the bedroom, and cut off the top of her paci (I didn't let her see me do this). Then I came out of our room with the "broken" paci. I told her to look, paci was broken. She just kept calling it "broken" and kept it with her, unable to really suck on it. She whined a little...but there was no crying. I explained to her that she was a big girl and that she didn't need it anyway. She tried to stick it in my mouth and I said, "no, mommy doesn't need a paci, I'm a big girl and so are you." In less than an hour she was asleep, paci laying on the floor. She did ask for it a few more times yesterday but I just kept reminding her it was broken and showing it to her. At bedtime she was a little more upset-she cried a little while. She fell asleep (in our bed--we moved her later) holding broken paci after fighting sleep for a small amount of time. She asked for it again today, but again...all she needed was the reminder that it is broken...and she gives up the idea. We will see how tonight goes. I think it will take a few days at least...maybe a week but so far, so good. I thought it would be a nightmare like when we tried to do without it in early May. We didn't last hours that day. Our little girl is getting so big!!! It's kind of sad. I think we let her use paci for so long to keep her our baby. They really don't stay small long enough.

Even Isabelle is getting so big. On Monday night I felt inside her mouth and found that an entire bottom tooth had broken through...and I had no idea it was coming in. We thought we had seen/felt one a couple months ago but it turned out to be nothing. Now she has an entire jagged top of a tooth through! And she is starting to pull herself up. In fact...she pulled herself to standing all by herself today, not holding on to anything, really. She is totally unstable of course, and has lots of bumps because of it but she is getting there. We think at this rate she will be walking before Riley did. Which was 11 months...and Izzy is only 8 and a half months.

So that's what's been going on around here...two precious girls keeping me so busy I can barely keep up. Izzy is in to everything and I have to follow her around to prevent every little spec of anything from going in her mouth.

Anyway...back to my original plan for the post: Our first daughter, Riley Paige Anderson at 6 pounds 9 ounces, 18 inches long
Before her first bath
After her first bath-- about two hours old
and her first night home from the hospital. So sweet!

And now...25+ pounds, 34 inches of terrible (and wonderful) 2 year old

This was on the morning of her birthday. We let her open one present early in the day and she got this stuffed Nemo...or "Meemo" as it often comes out of her mouth that way.

Riley showing me how old she is on her birthday. More pics to come of the birthday very soon. I will blog about the whole occasion. But this post is long enough for one day.

Q is for...

Wait, before I blog for "Q" don't you agree it's amazing that I am actually blogging a second day in a row again? I never thought that would happen with how crazy busy things have been around here.

Now...Q. That is a little harder than some letters but I came up with plenty. First of all, QUILTS. I LOVE Quilts! I think they are beautiful. And I wish I knew how to make them. Maybe someday. Trav's paternal grandparents (Granny and Papa Anderson) bought us a quilt for our bed as a wedding gift three and half years ago and I love that quilt so much! It's got my two most favorite colors in it (because Gran asked me what colors I liked) Pink and Green! And I love the thing dearly. It has gotten good use and is starting to fall apart a little but we will use it to pieces. I love to look at quilts any time I see them. I can't say for sure what exactly brought this obsession on but part of it might be that my mom had a quilt that belonged to or was made by her grandmother or something like that...and I LOVED THAT THING. It was the best blanket in the whole house but mom didn't let us use it because it was old and cherished, I guess.

Q is also for Quiddler. If you have never heard of it, it is a word game played with cards with letters on them. I am not sure what to compare it to. I mean, it's nothing like Scrabble...but it is a word game and I love it. It's one of my favorite games!

Lastly, Q is for Quizno's. Travis LOVES Quizno's. It's one of his favorite food places. And I know he wishes he could eat there more...because everytime we decide to eat out he names it as an option... and I rarely want it. But sometimes, although rare...I am in a Quizno's mood.

P is for...

PENNSYLVANIA!
From July 31-August 5 we flew back east to my hometown. My mom paid for our airfares (thank you, mom!) and we took the opportunity. This will be the last flying trip we make since we will be having to pay for three airfares now that Riley is TWO. Let's just say we wouldn't want to travel again any time soon anyway. We are totally traveled out and exhausted. Now, as for the PA trip...some of the highlights were eating at some of my favorite restaurants that are only back home. That stuff is always a must for me. One of the places we ate was the country club where I used to waitress. I love that place! Every first Sunday in August my mom's mom's side of the family has a reunion at a park and it's basically a potluck and then everyone just sits around catching up and playing games. Riley had lots of fun on the playground there. I got to see old friends and family. The last time we were in Pennsylvania was when Riley was 4 months old. So it had been over a year and a half since I had been home! It was Izzy's first PA experience. The highlight for Riley had to have been our trip to Pittsburgh's Zoo!!! It was so great to see all the animals.

Isabelle with Aunt Maria
Daddy and Izzy
Sisters. Not sure what I was doing...trying to avoid my pic being taken, I am sure.
Izzy and Ria.
Again.
Riley eating strawberries
Sweet Isabelle Jane
One of the tigers at the zoo.

Zebras! I thought these were so beautiful! I had never seen them live/in person.

Giraffes!!!
Some kind of weird looking fish.
Dory!
and Nemo, too!

The zoo just welcomed TWO baby elephants in July! So we got to see them!

Rhino
Lion

Playing in the bubbles with my Aunt Val

This was so cute! Izzy loved the swing!

Eating out.

Swinging!

I have hundreds more pictures, of course...especially of animals at the zoo. But these were a few of the best or my favorites. There. I blogged. YAY.

I'm back again...hopefully

Ok, here is my attempt at getting back into the groove of blogging regularly again. Cross your fingers! We are moved and mostly settled...so I have no excuse other than the fact that I just want to relax and be lazy after all the recent craziness.

I am moving in two days...

and I have the FLU. Can anyone say FUN?? I need my mommy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The doctor says take it easy....Riiiiiiiiiiggghhhhht....I will get right on that....next week once I am moved in. Or I will die before then. You are all invited to the funeral.

Hopefully I am back to regular blogging soon. And there will be a happier tone to my posting; one of good health, relief, and non-sleep deprivation. Between watching the Olympics half the night and waking up with kids in the morning (and night) and no rest all day from packing...I am exhausted, totally worn out. No wonder I am sick! Seriously...MOM-if you are reading this, come out here!!!!!!!!! I really need you. I know, it's practically impossible. But I would feel so much better.

O is for...

Omniture in Orem!

Some of you may be going, "Huh?" Let me explain. We are moving to Orem, Utah (or somehwere in that neighborhood) because Travis just got hired at a company called Omniture. WOW! Firstly, I just want to say CONGRATULATIONS, BABE! I am so happy for you! Travis got the phone call yesterday (Tuesday) and he starts a week from Monday. Yes, that is in only 12 days. Which gives us about 10 days to pack up and move. Can you say crazy and stressful?!?! Yeah...I am trying not to think about it but I have so few days that I have to get my butt in gear! This will be an interesting experience for me and our whole family but we are excited for this new adventure and part of our lives. I am sad to be leaving Rexburg....and Idaho. I have loved this area. I will miss it greatly. This is where we met and started our life together. We have gotten very comfortable here. Some things I will miss are: great friends, CRAIGO'S, my OBs (I know, I'm weird and no, there is no plan for baby #3 anytime soon...but still.), and CRAIGO'S. Okay, I know I already said that but I love that pizza place SO FREAKIN' MUCH!!! Maybe I can finally go on that diet and lose those few pounds I have been carrying around. Maybe. ;-) So if it seems like I have fallen off the face of the planet and the blogging world all over again, it is because I am busy packing. And moving. And then UNpacking. Sounds fun, I know!
